But no way I could afford it now. Just look at these numbers from CSUB President Horace Mitchell's monthly newsletter:
2009-10 State University Fee Increase
2009-10 State University Fees for full-time students increased by $306 for undergraduate students, $354 for teacher credential students, and $378 for graduate students. Yearly totals are provided in the chart below. (ULP!!! I paid about $378 for my first semester at Fresno State!)
In addition to the State University Fee, students pay campus fees, which average $801.
Revenues from the fee increase provide $127 million to the CSU, with one-third or $42 million set aside for financial aid to offset fee increases for students in need.
Annual State University Fees for 2009-10
| Units (per term) | Undergraduate | Credential Program | Graduate |
| 6.1 or more | $3,354 | $3,894 | $4,134 |
| 0 to 6.0 | $1,944 | $2,256 | $2,400 |
The 2008-09 average student fees for resident undergraduates at CSU comparison institutions were $7,516. Additional institutional comparison information can be accessed at: http://www.calstate.edu/budget/2009-2010/supportbook2/fees-comparison.shtml.
New Professional MPA Fee Also Adopted
Trustees also adopted a professional fee for state-supported Master's of Business Administration (MBA) programs and similar business graduate degrees. The fee adds $210 per semester unit and $140 per quarter unit for an annual cost of $9,174. The CSU's MBA programs remain well below the price for comparable institutions.

After sending my son to the University of Oregon for a year, that actually sounds cheap.
ReplyDeleteYou need to do a reality check, or better pay for a kid in college, which at this point I wouldn't wish on anyone! The price of both a UC and Cal State education for in state residents is still a bargain, even if it has been bumped up over the years. Just seems folks got used to the relatively low tuitions in the Golden State. Check out any out of state public universities and you'll be paying much more ...
ReplyDeleteKids, schmids! I just care about ME and what I can afford!
ReplyDeleteCompared with private universities and larger public institutions, CSUB is a bargain. Also, consider the increase in your earnings potential. Someone with a master's degree tends to earn more than someone without. Look long term, and go for it.
